One must learn to fail or suffer failing to learn.
Teens in martial arts develop a positive association with failing, re-thinking their objective, and then reapplying themselves to gain a more successful outcome.
Our main focus is simple: discipline. Discipline of self, discipline in your engagements with others, and discipline in the pursuit of goals.
Learning to emotionally process winning and losing is tough. Most children build this muscle in school and with their peers. The problem with other teens being their only feedback loop is that it becomes an echo chamber for what the majority believes or accepts.
What if the majority doesn’t accept you? To an adult- hey, no big deal. But to a young mind, being ostracized and/or excluded in any way can make the bright teenager feel like everything about themselves in wrong.
But remember (and as taught in our adult Thaiboxing, as well), both right and wrong are very fluid concepts based on successful execution. Building confidence in other ways- like Thaiboxing in our Muay Thaigers program- comes by establishing relationships, developing and refining motor skills, and cultivating self-esteem while learning how to be part of a team.
We will challenge your child, that’s a fact. Muay Thaigers mirrors our adult Thaiboxing program. We run on 8-week cycles and teach fundamentals like a language, similar to how they’re currently learning Algebra or Chemistry. By doing this, they have hundreds of micro-failures each class, allowing themselves a chance to dig out of the predicament and produce micro-successes.
Kids who can fight… often don’t. They learn the value of using their words; they know the possible physical consequences that both parties might suffer if they fail to find a compromise or talk out an disagreement.
Decades of studies have shown that children taking part in multiple sports in their teenage years leads to greater goals, stronger social awareness skills, and a much more dialed-in sense of self. We see ourselves as a supplement to your child’s current sports endeavors and will happily cater towards them when possible.
